My favorite Ayurveda self care practice, Abhyangha!
People ask me all the time, “What is the #1 Ayurvedic tip you would give?”
Every SINGLE time I say ABHYANGA! Pronounced AH-BEE-YAWN-GAW. A self massage practice that has been a part of daily routines for thousands of years.
And why, you may ask?! Because when we rub our body in warm oil, it is like a nurturing sheath, a coating that is soothing to the nervous system, to your body and helps release anything that is “holding on”. Also who doesn’t love having a daily massage?! I love to think of this as a pre-shower thing, already in my schedule because let me tell you, it can feel daunting and messy if you aren’t prepared!
Here is the HOW TO my friends:
1. Pour some oil in a small mason jar as you boil some hot water separately. Organic, unfiltered, Sesame oil that is not toasted is best for fall and winter because it is warming in nature.
2. Once water is boiled, place in a small bowl and then take your mason jar and place it in the bowl with hot water. This creates a double broiler action to warm the oil.
3. Find an old towel to put on the floor and if it is right to, remove clothes to do massage.
4. Start at the feet and paint oil over the legs, going in circles around the joints and long ways around the limbs.
5. Keep going to cover the body, always going towards the heart. Spend some extra time around the breasts! This is a very very healthy practice for your boobies!
6. Sit with oil on for 5-20 min, listening to soothing music, meditate or just think loving thoughts.
7. Wipe off excess oil with towel and take a shower with very light soap.
8. Feel like you just went to the spa and walk around with that bliss! ❤️❤️❤️ Try to practice this one time a week to start, eventually practicing every day and you will definitely notice the change in your life
let the massaging begin!
