A 6-month container for self-reclamation, communal healing, and embodied transformation.

recover (v) definition: to get back, to gain

*This is specific to racialized identity. Bodies of Culture, as introduced by Resmaa Menakem, brings in a different context of people of color, to reclaim culture that has been lost.

What would it feel like to recover

what has been lost through generations of assimilation?

What would it feel like to recover

your sense of joy, and playfulness?

What would it feel like to recover

a sense of belonging that was not defined by dominant culture?

Imagine being in a small group of women to

process, grieve, play and experience joy

can you sense that feeling?

this space might be for you

the problem:

In the western context of culture, we have learned to be individualized, assimilate to culture, to fit in, to go along with and to survive. But the reality is that this may leave us feeling disconnected in our relationships, exhausted, anxious, stressed and feeling alone.

Disjointed with from our desires,

How we feel in our bodies

How we recognize our worth (whether it is financial or rest)

We carry the weight and responsibility of trying to change the world to be more equitable, and inclusive and sometimes people don’t understand.

We have been in therapy

and are ready to shift from an intellectual to a more embodied approach.

We are SEEKING community! Wondering, WHERE ARE MY PEOPLE AT???

People who understand, who have similar values and are seeking restoration.

the solution came when I noticed this pattern and a need to have this space

being in and facilitating in various large community spaces is incredibly supportive and

the intention of THIS is to be intimate. Feeling this pressure, seeing this pressure inspired me to create

RECOVER: an intimate embodied space for women of color

For the mixed, the first gens, the bodies of culture,

who are seeking an intimate embodied space.

And when I say intimate, there will be 6-10 people, that's it!

For 6 months! So we can feel, explore, and play together,

in ritual and routine.

Hi! I’m Malia!

I was born of Chinese, African, Swedish and English lineages on the unceeded territory of the Tongva people, now called Los Angeles.

As someone who grew up mixed, I have always felt in between spaces, never fitting into one space and this has given me the perspective of nuance, of exploration, of playfulness and trickster energy

This led to 10 years of exploring identity, social and familial pressures, relationship to myself, feeling overworked, burnt out, and inspiring me to study many paths to bring me to who I am today and who I will become.

I am a DEIA Integration and Embodiment Specialist, a facilitator, coach and teacher of Embodied Movement, Integrative Somatic Collective Healing, Human Design, Theatre arts and Feminine Form Ayurveda, combining curiosity with mindfulness to connect to the individual for collective and personal healing. I facilitate with Rooted Global Village, Karine Bell, Leticia Nieto, Resmaa Menakem in addition to healing around systemic trauma.

My approach is rooted in curiosity with playfulness, while creating an open space for engagement and processing to support the individual process for the progress of collective cultural consciousness.

This group is about creating a container to

remember what it feels like to be at home.

To be in relationship with yourself, your community, and environment.

To recover what has been lost

To heal what our ancestors desired and did not have

To be with what we moved through to survive

To reclaim rest, play, joy, and pleasure

Here, we move through rigidity, fear, scarcity, and their

root in personal, familial, ancestral, and systemic stories.

We sit in the in-between to digest, rest, process,

and re-imagine new ways of being.

For too long, we have been disconnected, too tired to do what

makes us feel alive, connected, joyful, and pleasurable and

this is where we will remember.

What will we be doing?
